Werner Seubert (born January 23, 1950 in Großwallstadt ) is a former German soccer player whose greatest success was winning the Austrian Cup with FC Wacker Innsbruck in 1979.

career

At the beginning of 1969, Seubert moved from SV Großwallstadt to 1. FC Nürnberg and was there first in its amateur team in the Bayern League . During his first season with the professionals, he knew how to convince with 11 goals in 19 games. In the following season, however, he was thrown back by his transfer to the defense line of the club and an injury.

For the 1971/72 season Seubert moved to regional league competitor FC Bayern Hof and found strong offensive competition in Karl-Heinz Zapf , Ludwig Schuster and Wolfgang Breuer . In the regular season Seubert brought it to 13 missions and 3 goals. Because of the runner-up in the Regionalliga Süd , FC Bayern Hof was entitled to take part in the promotion round to the Bundesliga , but failed there, among other things, at Wuppertaler SV . Seubert was in the starting line-up in all 8 games of the promotion round and scored 3 goals.

After another season at FC Bayern Hof , in which Seubert scored 7 goals in 16 games, the striker moved to Bayern league club SpVgg Weiden and was the top scorer in the Bayern league in 1973/74 with 25 goals. This did not go unnoticed by the second division club 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and so Seubert moved to Lower Franconia for the 1974/75 season of the 2. Bundesliga South . Seubert also confirmed that he was dangerous to score in Schweinfurt and formed a dangerous attacking duo with former German international Lothar Emmerich . Both players scored sixteen times each and thus contributed to the strong season of the Schweinfurters, who were only not allowed to participate in the relegation to the Bundesliga because of the worse goal difference compared to FK Pirmasens . However, Schweinfurt could not build on this strong season and rose somewhat surprisingly into the Bayern League in the following season . Seubert, who was again increasingly used in defense, could not confirm his record from the previous year and only scored 6 hits in 28 missions.

Seubert accompanied 1. FC Schweinfurt in the Bayern League, but switched to league rivals 1. FC Amberg . He stayed there for only six months, however, and at the beginning of 1977 he joined the Rhine-Hessian association Wormatia Worms .

Seuberts' best phase of his career began after promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with Wormatia. He scored 40 goals in just 46 games in the 2nd Bundesliga South . His trainer Eckhard Krautzun characterized Seubert as follows:

“An introverted man who is one hundred percent focused on his job, a prime example of a professional. Physically and mentally, he prepared optimally. If he doesn't score a goal, he's unhappy and doesn't sleep. He has the incredible gift of being in the right place at the right time. No coach can teach him that. In terms of play, he is also extremely strong, not only binding two men, but also skilfully falling behind and preparing opportunities for his fellow men. "

In his second season with Wormatia, the Großwallstädter fought together with well-known players like Dragoslav Stepanović or Egon Bihn at the top of the table in the 2nd division for promotion to the Bundesliga . During the winter break, however, Eckhard Krautzun , Niels Poulsen and Thomas Zander switched to TSV 1860 Munich , one of the Worms' biggest competitors in the fight for promotion, which was what Wormatia hopes for promotion were due to financial problems in the wake of the "Heyn affair" put a severe damper. Seubert also decided to change during the winter break and joined the Austrian first division club FC Wacker Innsbruck .

It took a while until Seubert demonstrated his scoring skills. It was only in his tenth championship game, in a 4-2 win over SK Rapid Wien , that the knot burst and Seubert was able to score his first league goal. However, he only allowed two more to follow, which ultimately meant a record of 3 goals in 14 league games. At the end of the season, the relegation of FC Wacker to the 2nd division was certain.
In the Austrian Cup , Seubert again played a much more important role for Wacker Innsbruck. In the quarter-final against SV Austria Salzburg , Seubert scored the decisive goal to make it 2-0 and in the first leg of the final against FC Admira / Wacker , Seubert scored the only goal in Innsbruck's Tivoli. With a 1-1 draw in the second leg, Wacker secured victory in the 1979 Austrian Cup.

Werner Seubert did not accompany Wacker Innsbruck on their way to the 2nd division. Instead, he moved to Freiburg FC , where the Großwallstädter was last able to show double-digit hits in the second division with 12 goals. The SpVgg Fürth was Seubert's final station in professional football. He ended his career in the amateur field at FC Bayern Hof and VfB Rehau .

Werner Seubert played a total of 134 games in the 2nd Bundesliga South and scored 77 goals.
