career

In 1967, the student Egon Bihn moved from his hometown club SKV Hainhausen to the youth department of Kickers Offenbach . The talent of the technically outstanding attacker quickly developed on the Bieberer Berg and he was appointed to the German national school team in 1970 . Bihn made his debut on March 7, 1970 at the international match in Rheda against the Netherlands in the DFB's student selection (1: 2). In May, the Offenbach player also played in the two games against England in London (0: 3) and Flensburg (1: 0). His positive performance continued and led Bihn in 1972 in the youth national team of the DFB. On February 19, he made his debut alongside teammates Ulrich Stielike and Karl-Heinz Körbel in the international match against Finland (2-1) and scored a goal. In March and April 1973, he was used in the four qualifying matches for the UEFA youth tournament against the Netherlands and Poland. In the following tournament in Italy, Bihn played three games against Norway (2: 1), Romania (0: 1) and Italy (0: 1). With the A-Juniors from Offenbach he was on July 8, 1973 in Munich in the final of the German A-Juniors Championship against VfB Stuttgart. Coach Engelbert Kraus' team lost the final with 1: 3 goals.

For the 1973/74 season he was taken over by coach Gyula Lóránt in the Bundesliga squad like his former A-youth colleagues Peter Berg and William Hartwig . Bihn made his Bundesliga debut on August 18, 1973 in a 2-2 away draw against Hertha BSC. He came on in the 75th minute for Sigfried Held . Coach Lorant was replaced on April 2, 1974 by his previous assistant Otto Rehhagel . It was not enough for Bihn to play more than six times in his first Bundesliga round; the OFC attack was well-staffed with Manfred Ritschel (34-8), Erwin Kostedde (33-15) and Held (34-6), and midfielders Josef Hickersberger (26-8) and Winfried Schäfer (34-7 ) belonged to the Bundesliga elite. In the second year of the Bundesliga, 1974/75 , Bihn was able to increase its participation rate significantly. Coach Rehhagel sent the agile combination player to 19 missions (1 goal) on the lawn. In the memorable 6-0 start on August 24, 1974 against defending champions FC Bayern Munich, he was substituted on for Kostedde in the 81st minute. This season, Bihn was appointed three times to the German national soccer team of amateurs . He made his debut on September 25, 1974 in Bursa against Turkey and came on December 4 against Italy, as well as on February 26, 1975 in a 2-0 defeat in Mannheim against France to appearances in the DFB amateur team.

Before the third Bundesliga round, 1975/76 , OFC had to cope with the departures of Winfried Schäfer (Karlsruher SC), Fred-Werner Bockholt (Bayer Leverkusen) and Erwin Kostedde to Hertha BSC. After 17 match days of the first half of the season Offenbach was ranked 18th with 12-22 points. Coach Rehhagel was replaced on January 1, 1976 by Zlatko Čajkovski ; At the end of the round, the Kickers were relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with 27-41 points. Bihn had played 24 rounds and scored two goals.

Then the offensive player moved to local rivals Eintracht Frankfurt . Eintracht reached fourth place in the table in 1976/77 under the coaches Hans-Dieter Roos (until November 8, 1976) and Gyula Lorant (from November 9). Due to the strong internal competition from players like Jürgen Grabowski , Wolfgang Kraus , Bernd Nickel , Roland Weidle , Bernd Hölzenbein and Rüdiger Wenzel , Bihn had to be content with nine appearances and two goals. In his second BL round at Eintracht, his personal situation worsened, under coaches Lorant (until November 30, 1977) and Dettmar Cramer (from December 9, 1977) he was only used in three Bundesliga games. From the round 1978/79 Bihn ran for Wormatia Worms in the 2nd Bundesliga .

When he was four years with VfR Wormatia Worms , his professional career ended in 1982 with a total of 68 league appearances (18 goals) in the second division. The first season, 1978/79 , went best for Bihn and Worms. For a long time the Wormatia played with players like goalkeeper Thomas Zander , Horst Raubold , Helmut Zahn , Hans-Dieter Seelmann , Lothar Wesseler and Bihn (32-11) seriously for the title; Wormatia had finished the first half of the season after 19 matchdays with 28-10 points - tied with Karlsruher SC - in 1st place. At the end of the round, Worms took third place, three points behind Meister 1860 Munich, and SpVgg Bayreuth moved into the relegation games against Bayer Uerdingen as runner-up - two points ahead of Worms. Successful coach Eckhard Krautzun had finished his work in Worms in December 1978, then Arkoc Özcan (until April 1979) and Bernd Fischer (from April 1979) brought the second half to an end.
