Ludwig Lurz (born January 1, 1945 - † July 29, 2015 ) was a German soccer player who played at Bayer 05 Uerdingen throughout his professional career . He came to Bayer Uerdingen from TuS Gellep in 1968 and ended his career in 1981.

Football career

Lurz was part of the team that won the championship in the Niederrhein association league in the 1970/71 season and rose through the promotion round to the then second -rate regional football league West . Under coach Klaus Quinkert , he played the Uerdingen's first regional league game on August 15, 1971. It ended 0-0 in the stadium at Schloss Strünkede against Westfalia Herne. At that time Lurz was still storming the left wing and Manfred Burgsmüller was in the middle of the storm . With the two third places in the last two rounds of the Regionalliga West, 1973 and 1974 , Bayer qualified for the newly installed 2nd Bundesliga from 1974/75 . In the debut year of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1974/75 , Lurz and colleagues were runner-up in the northern season and made it through the playoffs against the southern runners-up FK Pirmasens (4: 4; 6: 0) promotion to the Bundesliga .

On August 9, 1975, Lurz played in midfield - at the side of Friedhelm Funkel , Lorenz-Günther Köstner and Hans-Jürgen Wloka - when the team from the Grotenburg Stadium lost 2-1 to Rot-Weiss Essen in the Bundesliga debuted. Horst Hrubesch was a two-time goal scorer in the Elf von der Hafenstrasse. At the end of the round, his club finished last and returned to the 2nd Bundesliga. Lurz had played 27 Bundesliga games.

In the 1976/77 season , the games in the DFB Cup stood out. After successes over VfB Weidenau, Mainz 05, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt, Lurz and colleagues failed - goalkeepers Paul Hesselbach , Norbert Brinkmann , Paul Hahn , Jens Steffensen , Heinz Mostert , Friedhelm Funkel, Lorenz Köstner, Jürgen Wloka, Jan Mattsson and Franz Raschid - after a 0-1 home defeat against Hertha BSC, they made it into the final .

After the third year in the 2nd Bundesliga, 1978/79 , Lurz and his teammates from Bayer Uerdingen won again the runner-up in the northern season and thus the chance to return to the Bundesliga through relegation games against the southern runner-up SpVgg Bayreuth . In the league round he played 37 association games (1 goal). The team from Krefeld prevailed with 1: 1 and 2: 1 and moved into the Bundesliga for the second time. In the Bundesliga season 1979/80 Uerdingen occupied 15th place under coach Horst Buhtz and Lurz had been on the field again in 27 matches. The senior played his last league game on May 16, 1980 in a 4-0 away defeat at 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
