Ludger van de Loo
Ludger van de Loo (born March 14, 1959 ) is a former German soccer player who played his entire professional career at Bayer 05 Uerdingen . The defensive player has played 144 league games in the Bundesliga and scored seven goals. In 1985 he won the DFB Cup with Uerdingen.
career
The defender's talent was already apparent in his youth and the DFB nominated the Uerdingen home grown man for the first time on April 19, 1977 for the international match against Sweden (2-1) for the youth national team. With the DFB selection, he took part in the UEFA youth tournament in Belgium in May of that year . He was used alongside other players such as Walter Junghans and Dietmar Grabotin in all tournament games and took 4th place with the selection. For the 1977/78 season he got a professional contract for the licensed team that played in the 2nd Bundesliga . He made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga as an A-youth on May 1 and 7, 1977 in the two league games against Wacker 04 Berlin (1: 1) and Preußen Münster (2: 2), where he played immediately before the UEFA Junior tournament was brought into use by trainer Klaus Quinkert . In his first senior year, 1977/78, the young man was only used in four other second division games. The change of coach from Quinkert to Siegfried Melzig in August 1977 certainly played a role in this. When the former Italian professional Horst Buhtz took over the coaching position for the Grotenburg-Kampfbahn team in October 1978 , the defensive talent improved. At the end of the round in 1978/79 he counted with 31 league appearances (1 goal) to the regular formation which reached the runner-up and thus had the opportunity to move up to the Bundesliga via the relegation against the south runner-up SpVgg Bayreuth. Ludger van de Loo played against Bayreuth in both games in mid-June and formed the Uerdingen defensive network in front of goalkeeper Manfred Kroke together with Paul Hahn , Norbert Brinkmann and Ludwig Lurz . In Bayreuth it was enough to make a 1-1 draw, in the home game Willi Götz , who replaced van de Loo in the 70th minute, decided the game for the blue-reds with a goal in the 85th minute to make it 2-1.
The Buhtz team was only able to stay in the Bundesliga for one round, and in the 1980/81 season the zero five were relegated to the second division again. Van de Loo had played 56 Bundesliga games in the two rounds and scored three goals. In the second attempt in the 2nd Bundesliga, 1982/83 , but succeeded again in relegation games, this time against FC Schalke 04, the return to the Bundesliga. The defender had played 67 second division games and scored six goals. Especially in the 1-1 draw in the second leg at Schalke 04 on June 19, the Uerdingen defense with Werner Vollack , Matthias Herget , Norbert Brinkmann and the brother couple van de Loo carried the brunt of the successful campaign for promotion to the Bundesliga. Uerdingen improved steadily over the next few years and even won the DFB Cup in 1985 , reached 3rd place in 1985/86 and also shone in the European Cup, not least because of the miracle of Grotenburg .
Ludger van de Loo said goodbye to the Bundesliga with eight appearances in the 1987/88 season and ended his career. He stayed in Krefeld and worked as a qualified engineer.
Van de Loo played 104 second division games (7 goals) and 144 Bundesliga games (7 goals) from 1976 to 1988. His greatest success was winning the DFB Cup in 1985 .
