Werner Vollack (born March 24, 1955 in Duisburg ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

The 1.84 m tall goalkeeper played a total of 150 games in the Bundesliga and 260 games in the second division between 1974 and 1990 . With Bayer 05 Uerdingen , Vollack experienced his most successful sporting period with promotion to the Bundesliga in 1983, victory in the DFB Cup in 1985 and the European Cup matches in the 1985/86 Cup Winners' Cup . He is part of the team that managed the miracle of the Grotenburg , in which Dynamo Dresden was defeated 7-3. Werner Vollack failed in the semi-finals with Bayer 05 at Atlético Madrid , but he was dubbed "El Milagro" (The Miracle) in the Spanish press because of his strong performance.

For the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 he was nominated by Franz Beckenbauer as the 4th goalkeeper on call. He also played for the B national team and the German Olympic team.

After the career

After the end of his career due to an injury - among other things, he had to have an artificial knee joint inserted - Vollack acquired the Trainer A license, but was unable to work due to health problems. He trained as a travel agent and started his own business with a travel agency in Krefeld. After ten years, Vollack had to close this travel agency again and then became an employee of the Krefeld city administration. He is now the groundskeeper of the KTSV Preussen Krefeld.

Vollack has been a goalkeeping coach at Preussen Krefeld since 2008 , initially for the first men's team, and since 2009 in the youth division of the Krefeld club. Since the 2012/13 season he has been training the second team with which he won the Krefeld city championship in August 2012.
