Bernhard "Bernd" Cullmann (born November 1, 1949 in Rötsweiler ) is a former German soccer player . Cullmann became world champion in 1974 and European champion in 1980 .

Career

During his active time as a midfielder, he played 341 games from 1970 to 1984 for 1. FC Cologne in the Bundesliga . He scored 29 hits in the highest German league. With Cologne he was German champion in 1978 and in 1977, 1978 (goal to 1-0 in 2-0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf) and 1983 (not in the final team in 1-0 against Fortuna Cologne) DFB Cup winner .

In the national team , he made 40 international matches from 1973 to 1980 and scored 6 goals. Cullmann took part in the football world championships in 1974 and 1978 and won the title with the DFB-Elf in 1974 . In the first round of the final, he scored a header in the game against Australia (3-0). Four years later in Argentina, Helmut Schön's team failed to defend their title. Cullmann was not used in this tournament. Under his successor Jupp Derwall , he won the 1980 European championship with his national team colleagues in Italy .

After he ended his career in 1983 for health reasons, he became a representative at a sporting goods company. In November 1991 he joined the board of directors of 1. FC Köln as the third chairman, and in September 1993 he took over the managerial position from Karl-Heinz Thielen . When trainer Stephan Engels was dismissed in early April 1996 , Bernd Cullmann also resigned. From October 1999 to June 2000 Cullmann was manager at MSV Duisburg .

From 1998 to 2010 his son Carsten Cullmann also played in the Bundesliga squad of 1. FC Köln.
