Bernhard Georg Josef Förster (born May 3, 1956 in Mosbach ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Förster emerged from the youth of SV Waldhof Mannheim and received a licensed player contract for the 1974/75 season in the 2nd Bundesliga South. There he made his debut on August 3, 1974 (1st matchday) in the 1-1 game at the Stuttgarter Kickers . Before the end of the first half of the season, Förster moved to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga , where he played six times by the end of the season and only twice in the following season. Furthermore, he came - due to substitution - to eight minutes of playing time in the DFB Cup (2: 3 home defeat against MSV Duisburg ) and 15 minutes in the European Cup (5: 0 at Jeunesse Esch and 2: 0 against Malmö FF ).

From 1976 to 1978 he played for the Bundesliga club 1. FC Saarbrücken , where he played all 34 games in the second season and once in the DFB Cup - in the 1: 2 home defeat against his previous club - was used.

From 1978 to 1986 he was part of the VfB Stuttgart squad , for which he played most league games. National team

From November 11, 1973 to April 3, 1974, Förster played eleven games for the DFB youth team . He made his debut in Sindelfingen in a 2-1 victory over the youth team of Sweden and last played in Piteşti in the 0-2 defeat against the youth team of Romania. From November 14th to 19th, he took part with the youth team in the tournament for the Prince Albert Cup in Monte Carlo , which won him 4-1 on penalties in the final against Belgium's selection . On December 4, 1974, Förster was a member of the amateur national team that defeated Italy 2-0 in Dortmund . In 1979, 1980 and 1981 Förster was called up for one game in the national B team : 3-0 against the Norwegian national soccer team , 0-2 in Switzerland and 1-0 against the Soviet Union.

He made his senior national team debut on May 22, 1979 in a 3-1 win over the national team of Ireland . He was European champion in Italy in 1980 (two appearances) and vice world champion in Spain in 1982 (four appearances, including in the starting eleven in the final). In 1984 he took part in the European Championship in France (three missions).

Together with the national team, he received the Silver Laurel Leaf after winning the European Championship in 1980.

Bernd Förster and his younger brother Karlheinz were one of six pairs of brothers who played together in the national team: Fritz and Ottmar Walter , Erwin and Helmut Kremers , Klaus and Thomas Allofs , Karl-Heinz and Michael Rummenigge as well as Lars and Sven Bender .
