Jörg Daniel (born July 9, 1951 in Hagen ) is a football coach at the German Football Association and a former German football player. As a goalkeeper , he played 112 Bundesliga games for Fortuna Düsseldorf and won the DFB Cup twice with the team .

Life

Jörg Daniel began his football career at Herringer SV and achieved his first success in 1969 when he became German A youth champion with VfL Bochum . From there he moved in 1971 to the Regionalliga West (the then 2nd division) to Alemannia Aachen , where he was a substitute goalkeeper for two years. In order to be able to concentrate on his training as a qualified sports teacher , he had himself reamateurised in 1972, went to the association league club SG Eschweiler and, in addition to soccer, completed a sports degree at the Sports University in Cologne .

In 1974 he moved to the newly founded 2nd division for SC Fortuna Köln , but was only rarely used there as the second man behind Wolfgang Fahrian . For the 1975/76 season he was loaned to Union Solingen , where he performed well and was then brought into the team in 1976 by the then Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf. In 1977, after an injury to the previous goalkeeper Wilfried Woyke , Jörg Daniel was then number 1 in the Düsseldorf goal. He played for Fortuna for four years, during which he celebrated his greatest successes as a player:

  • 1978: DFB Cup final
  • 1979: European Cup Winners' Cup final
  • 1979: DFB Cup winner
  • 1980: DFB Cup winner

In 1981 Daniel's contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf expired and was no longer renewed due to his changing performance. Since there was no new professional club, Jörg Daniel ended his active career. He successfully completed his studies at the sports university and then added a football instructor license. From 1984 to 1999 he was the association coach of the Badischer Fußballverband (BFV) in Karlsruhe . Since July 1999 he has been a member of the DFB's coaching staff, where he was in charge of the junior national teams from U15 to U17 and, as Sepp Maiers' representative, he was in charge of goalkeeping training for the senior national team . He is also the coordinator and sporting director of the DFB talent promotion program and trainer instructor.

In 1990 Jörg Daniel wrote the book Football Youth Training together with Gerhard Hamsen . Basics, exercises, programs.
