Westfalia Weitmar (officially: Sportverein Westfalia Weitmar 09 eV ) was a sports club from the Bochum district of Weitmar . The first soccer team took part in the DFB Cup once.

history

The association was founded in September 1909. It was founded by some members of the Kaiser Wilhelm theater association, who previously played in the Stiepel 04 sport and game that was founded 5 years earlier.

1909-1914

After the foundation, the first thing to do was to find a place where football could be played. The times when a club was assigned a permanent place were far in the future. And so the first sporting activities took place on Wilhelm Plänker's meadow. But Plänker's meadow soon proved to be too small and after a brief interlude on the Karl-Friedrich brickyard site, in mid-1910 the company moved to the fairground on Blankensteiner Strasse. Initially, the active players mainly played at sports and game festivals, including at Borussia Dortmund. It was finally accepted into the association in 1913 when it was incorporated into the Bochum C-League. At the end of 1913 there was another change of location, this time the move to the brick works on the waterway. In 1914 the club merged with the Weitmar gymnastics club.

1920-1932

Since gaming came to a standstill during the First World War , the next sporting activities did not take place again until 1920. They previously merged again, this time with Concordia Stiepel. Since then, three senior teams and two junior teams have played for the club. In 1922, the club achieved promotion to the B-class, in 1926 they failed in the promotion round to the A-class. In 1929 they played in a group with VfL Bochum 1848 .

1932-1949

In 1932 the next - penultimate - move took place. The association found a new home on Kellermannsweg. A new division brought the club into the district class, where it held for years. Game operations ended in 1944 due to the war, and in the same year the Ernst Krieter clubhouse was also bombed. The game started again soon after the Second World War and, in keeping with its 40th anniversary in 1949, the club was promoted to the district class, which for many decades became the sporting home of the Weitmarers.

1949-1984

In 1957 the club was on the verge of a sensation in the cup; after victories against well-known teams like SV Höntrop, SV Langendreer 04 and SC Dahlhausen (at the top of the association league at the time) the next game against Werdohl was lost 4-1. In the next few years, friendlies were the main highlights. So you played against FC Schalke 04 (1:29) and Westfalia Herne (4: 1). At the end of the 1964/1965 season, the club only narrowly failed to get promoted to the state league, the game against VfL Gevelsberg was lost 2-1 in Sprockhövel in front of 3,000 spectators. In 1967 the SV Westfalia 09 Weitmar eV rose to the top of the table in the then fourth-class Landesliga Westfalen . In the following years one commuted back and forth between the state league and the district class. In 1972 the time had come: the last move to the wonderful Roomersheide district sports facility was inaugurated with a friendly against VfL Bochum. The game was lost 6-2 in front of 6,000 spectators. The new district sports facility was also rebuilt in 1976 when the Ruhr Stadium was built, part of the old grandstand roof found its way to Weitmar, the other part was rebuilt at SV Langendreer 04. The absolute sporting highlight of this time was August 26, 1979 when Weitmar 09 competed in the first round of the DFB Cup! In front of 3,000 spectators, the then second division club SV Darmstadt 98 was a guest at Roomersheide, in the rainy battle Weitmar 09 lost as close as 1: 2. At the end of the 1983/1984 season, the club almost achieved promotion to the association league. To mark its 75th anniversary, a friendly match against the traditional Uwe Seeler team took place on June 6, 1984.

1985-2001

In 1987 the new club house was inaugurated on the square. Despite great ambitions in the youth and senior sector, things went downhill in sporting terms from 1994 onwards. The 1st team was literally passed through to the lowlands of the district league B. In the middle of the year 2000 the club was at an end both sportily and economically. Due to the economic decline, an important innovation in the club was hardly noticed: From July 1, 1999, the club also provided a girls' team for the first time.

Successor club Blau-Weiß Weitmar

The merger with SG Blau-Weiß Weitmar averted a possible bankruptcy . After many previous mergers, the club now had a new name, SV Blau-Weiß Weitmar 09. The merger of the two clubs quickly bore fruit. Not only did things improve economically, there was also something to offer in terms of sport. In the 2003/2004 season, the first team rose again to the district league A, the second team made it to the district league B. For the 2004/2005 season, the club registered a women's team for the first time. In the youth department, too, the performance teams were able to be brought back to the top division of the Bochum soccer district.
