Jörg Strube (born February 21, 1971 in Herten ) is a former German soccer player .

Club career

The defender, who was active in his youth at TV Asberg from 1982 onwards, switched to 1. FC Köln 's sports boarding school run by Roland Koch in 1985 at the age of 14 . There he matured to become a youth national player. In 1987, after successful advertising from Reiner Calmund , he decided to move to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on the other side of the Rhine . After his successful A-youth years under Jürgen Gelsdorf (German A-youth runner-up in 1988) he was loaned to the second division club Rot-Weiss Essen . There Strube made his debut in the RWE jersey on October 8, 1989 under coach Hans-Werner Moors at the home game against Fortuna Cologne . He came to 42 competitive appearances by the end of the 1990/91 season and scored one goal. Following his contract, he ended his career as a football licensed player for health reasons.

Youth national team

From 1986 Strube played in the youth national teams of the German Football Association (DFB) in the U-16 to U-20 and took a. a. at the U-16 European Championship 1987 in France with Holger Osieck as coach, in an international competition of the U18 national teams in France and at the Copa Del Atlantico U20 on Gran Canaria under coach Hannes Löhr . With the exception of the U16 European Championship (eliminated by drawing lots in the preliminary round against Italy), the DFB youth team won both tournaments with him as a constant in the defense area.

Coaching career

From 1992 to 1993 he was in charge of the C youth district selection in Moers. In 1993 he then worked at the Cosmos Soccer Camp in New York City . Apart from a three-year break, Strube has been a full-time flight attendant at Lufthansa since 1997 .
