Mario Cecchi Gori

Mario Cecchi Gori (born March 21, 1920 in Brescia , † November 5, 1993 in Rome ) was an Italian film producer .

Life

He has produced more than 200 films, often in collaboration with directors such as Damiano Damiani , Dino Risi and Ettore Scola . For his production Lamerica (director: Gianni Amelio ) he received the 1994 European Film Award for Best European Film . His production Il Postino (1995, directed by Michael Radford ) was the first non-English language film since Ingmar Bergman's Screams and Whispers (1972) to be nominated for an Oscar in the “best film” category.

His work is now being continued by his son Vittorio Cecchi Gori .

From 1990 until his death, Mario Cecchi Gori was also president of the Italian soccer club Fiorentina .

He is buried in the Cimitero delle Porte Sante cemetery.
