Lon Bender

Lon E. Bender (* 20th century ) is an American sound engineer who was awarded an Oscar in 1996 in the "Best Sound Editing" category. He was nominated for an Oscar two more times.

Life

Bender first appeared in 1977 when he starred in the television film Uncas, the Last of the Mohicans ( Last of the Mohicans ). It was a member of the sound design team. He was already responsible for the sound editing of the biopic Nashville Lady . In the following years he worked on many successful and well-known films, such as the historical film Braveheart with Mel Gibson in the lead role. For his work in this film he was awarded an Oscar for “Best Sound Editing” together with Per Hallberg . Bender is also known for his work on the mystery thriller Butterfly Effect (2004) with Ashton Kutcher . Another Oscar nomination in the category “Best Sound Editing” came in 2007 for the adventure thriller Blood Diamond with Leonardo DiCaprio . However, the Oscar went to Bub Asman and Alan Robert Murray and the war film Letters from Iwo Jima .

For the thriller Drive (2011) with Ryan Gosling , in which Bender worked with Victor Ray Ennis, both received an Oscar nomination for "Best Sound Editing". However, Eugene Gearty and Philip Stockton, who won with the fantasy film Hugo Cabret , were happy about the Oscar . Another major Bender film was The Hunger Games (2012), which was nominated for the HPA Awards.

Bender is a co-founder of the sound service company Soundelux. He has since left the company in favor of the Formosa Group, which was very difficult for him, as he explained in an interview.
