action
Crash Davis was once a successful baseball player . He is hired for the Durham Bulls team, where he is primarily supposed to support and train the talented Ebby Calvin LaLoosh as a catcher. Annie Savoy, who lives in the small town, chooses a player to start a relationship with each year. She makes an appointment with LaLoosh, whom she invites to her home. She ties LaLoosh to the bed and reads him from a book. This is the beginning of a relationship between Savoy and LaLoosh, who is really interested in Davis. However, this shows Savoy the cold shoulder. After LaLoosh made it to the major league, Davis was sacked as a player. In this situation he seeks support from Savoy, whereupon the two end up in bed together. However, in the morning Davis disappeared because he wants to find a new job as a catcher. At the end of the season, however, Davis reappears at Savoy's, says that he wants to be a manager and implies that he wants to stay with her.
One of the last scenes shows LaLoosh being interviewed. He literally repeats a few sentences he heard from Davis earlier.

The film is "completely unrealistic" as a film about love, but tells a lot about the baseball game. Ebert compared the direction with the direction of the films by Robert Altman .
The lexicon of international films said: "A nullity, undecided between comedy and melodrama, with a sexist attitude that is completely boring without knowledge of the baseball rules."
