The film ran in 1985 in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival . The premiere was on September 28, 1984 in the USA.

The film describes the lives of the two friends Blue and Eli: Blue, a less successful painter of erotic pictures, was left by his girlfriend while Eli works in his father's business and is still looking for a permanent partner.

Finally, Blue gets the opportunity to work in a gallery. There he and Eli get to know the gallery owner Liliane, with whom they both fall in love and compete, which endangers their friendship.

criticism

The lexicon of international film criticized that the “fashionably chic film” “hardly does justice to its serious subject”. A "sometimes rude dialogue and the unbalanced mixture of the background and the banal" would leave an "ambivalent impression". The film magazine Cinema saw a "thoughtful film about an unsatisfied yuppie generation with almost European charm". The “noble camera work” by Michael Ballhaus, the music by Tangerine Dream and an “excellent acting” Peter Coyote were highlighted.
