action

After defeating their archenemy Shredder again at the end of Turtles II - The Secret of the Ooze , the Turtles and their master Splinter have retreated back to their home, the sewers, where they spend most of their time training ninjutsu . Bored of this monotonous everyday life, the Turtles are very happy when their friend April O'Neal comes by with an antique present for them and their master Splinter. The present for Splinter is an ancient scepter from feudal Japan. When April holds it in her hand, she suddenly disappears in front of her friends and a Japanese feudal lord appears in her place. After the Turtles found out that the scepter made April and the feudal lord swap places across time and space, they decide to follow April to bring her safely back to the New York of the present. They ask their old friend Casey Jones to stay with their master Splinter and the feudal lord while they are away, before setting off on their journey to 17th century Japan using the scepter. Before they start their journey, Donatello finds out that they only have 60 hours to return by April, then the transition in the spacetime structure will close irrevocably. When the Turtles finally begin their adventure, they swap places with four Japanese soldiers. In the meantime April, who appeared on the spot where the feudal lord who had previously appeared in New York was standing, was held responsible for his disappearance and taken prisoner. The four Turtles, however, promptly get caught between the front lines in clashes between rebels and feudal lords, which makes their endeavor to save April all the more difficult. The Turtles manage to free April with the help of the rebels and to settle the dispute. They are therefore revered as heroes by the local population, which is why they seriously consider not to return to their own time, as they have to hide in the sewers there. In the end they decide to return to the New York of the present because they come to the conclusion that their presence would have too strong an influence on the life of the population in feudal Japan. With the help of the scepter, they return in good time before the 60-hour time limit has expired, again swapping places with the Japanese who appeared in their place in New York. Shortly after their return, the scepter loses its time travel ability (represented by a rotating attachment). The Turtles and April are safe and sound back with Master Splinter and Casey Jones in contemporary New York.
