The Fighters (Original Title: Never Back Down ) is an American action film from 2008 . Directed by Jeff Wadlow and written by Chris Hauty .
action
Jake Tyler and his family move from Iowa to Orlando , Florida because his little brother Charlie has received a scholarship to go to tennis boarding school there. At Jake's new high school , the mostly wealthy and bored youngsters pass the time with boxing matches against each other. On his very first day, he tries to help Max Cooperman, one of these young people, in one of these fights, unaware of the facts.
Max then discovers a video on the Internet that shows Jake beating up an opposing player after a football game, which provokes him with the death of his father. With the sober Jake in the passenger seat, he caused a car accident while drunk, in which he died, whereupon Jake became very guilty and found it difficult to get his aggression under control. It is through this video that Jake wins the attention of Ryan McCarthy, the best fighter in the school.
Ryan then wants to fight Jake and lets his girlfriend Baja Miller invite him to a party in his house. There Jake, who actually doesn't want to fight, lets himself be provoked by Ryan with the cause of his father's death, fights him and is badly beaten by Ryan, who has trained various fighting techniques since he was a child. As a result, Jake is persuaded by Max, with whom he has since become friends, to let himself be trained by Jean Roqua, the best freefighting coach in town, in order to get revenge on Ryan.
In the meantime, Jake and Baja, who broke up with Ryan due to his high-handed behavior, get closer and eventually become a couple. Max tries to convince Jake to take revenge on The Beatdown , a prestigious fighting tournament that has been won by Ryan over the past few years. But Jake refuses, having overcome his guilty feelings of relationship with Baja and training with Roqua. As a result, Ryan beats the untalented Max the night before the competition ready for hospital, whereupon Jake takes part in the competition to stop Ryan.
Both fight their way to the semifinals, where Ryan is disqualified in his fight because of eye stitching and Jake does not even start because it is all about Ryan. When Jake leaves the hall, he is attacked by Ryan in the parking lot. After a one-sided fight in favor of McCarthy's, Jake had a flashback of all his previous experiences and training in Orlando. He remembers techniques that Roqua taught him and uses them. He knocked out the fight by rounding McCarthy in the head.
The final scene shows Roqua packing his things to travel to Brazil to visit his family and Jake enjoying his day with Baja at the lake.
