action

The film begins in a changing room in a sports hall, where there is a verbal argument between a fighter and three others. Their story is now told in the rest of the film. All subsequent events are flashbacks and therefore take place before this scene.

The young boxer Zack Gomes is struggling with a retinal detachment in one eye after a lost fight and his doctor advises him against further fights in order not to risk lifelong blindness. The talented MMA fighter Tim Newhouse tries to help his family in financial straits. Mike Stokes, a wrestler , is attending a new college and is confronted with the problem that his father has left his mother for another man. Justin Epstein, who works at the comic book store, is on his way home from work when he is attacked by three thugs. However, he escapes them and takes refuge in Tim, who is currently training, and his trainer Case Walker. Mike is kicked out of the wrestling team after a brawl caused by insults against his father and then goes to Max Cooperman, who previously contacted him about the Beatdown fight event , and decided to take part in this tournament. There he meets Zack, who also learned about the Beatdown and wants to try his luck in the underground MMA business after his officially ended boxing career. A rivalry immediately develops between the two. After showing Max their skills in a short fight, he recommends that they let Case Walker train them. He has awards in several martial arts and was a successful MMA fighter before dropping out. Zack and Mike find Case at his training ground where he is training Tim and Justin. At first Case reacts negatively to the request to train her, but then decides to do it anyway for a good fee. After a few weeks of training together, the group gets into an argument about the respective reasons to fight, which ends in a fight between Zack and Justin. Between all the quarrels, Justin now decides to take part in the Beatdown as third in the group . Meanwhile, Max tries to persuade Case to make a comeback that he could organize through his contacts, but Case refuses. Case is persuaded by threats from two police officers to leave his premises with his trailer. That's why his four students, together with Max, organize a sports hall and corresponding training equipment to create a place for Case to train and at the same time to create the venue for the beatdown . Mike is increasingly faced with allegations that he is gay based on his father's homosexuality. Against all rumors, he's interested in Zack's girlfriend Eve. Tim finds work as a security clerk at a nightclub. However, Zack wants to cancel his participation in the Beatdown and then separates from Eve, who is now getting together with Mike. When Max learns that Zack no longer wants to take part, he visits Case to persuade him to take Zack's place so that his knockout system works . During his visit, he learns what forced Case to retire: He was jailed for beating another person to death in an argument. Justin, who was thrown from the team by Case for repeated violent behavior, files charges against Case, whereupon the police search his trailer and find a gun. The pistol was deposited there by Justin beforehand. The policemen want to beat Case with batons, but the latter knocks them down despite being handcuffed and flees with Max. Because of this incident, Tim and Zack decide to take part in the Beatdown to defeat Justin there and avenge their trainer, and so now she kicks entire group.

At the Beatdown , all four fighters survive the round of 16 unscathed, where the events from the beginning start again. Mike, Zack, Tim and Justin can also win in the quarterfinals, so that Mike meets Zack and Tim meets Justin in the semifinals. Mike wins the first of the two fights, but meanwhile Justin beats Tim brutally in the bathroom, as a result of which Tim has to cancel the semifinals due to his injuries; thus Mike and Justin are now facing each other in the final. In a fierce fight, Mike Justin finally breaks his shoulder in a submission and wins the beatdown . After his victory, he decides to call his father to take him out to dinner so they can talk. Case receives a call from the well-known manager "Big" John McCarthy and wants to try his comeback as an MMA fighter.

Connections to the first part

The film does not continue the events of The Fighters , but builds a new storyline.

  • Max Cooperman is the only person to appear in both parts: in the first as Jake Tyler's best friend and now as the organizer of the Beatdown. His habit of taking his camera everywhere and filming random battles remains intact.
  • When Max shows Mike the Beatdown website, there is a video of a fight between Jake Tyler and Ryan McCarthy that took place in the first part.
  • After the four young fighters have set up the new training hall together with Max, Max shows them an old kick exercise that he learned from his former trainer. He is alluding to the central exercise of the first part, which the trainer Jean Roqua then showed Jake and him.

production

Filming started in September 2010 and ended in November in the city of Baton Rouge . With a budget of 3 million dollars the film was shot within four weeks. The choreographies of the fights were developed by Larnell Stovall.
