Graham V. Hartstone
Graham V. Hartstone (born June 1944 in Uxbridge , Middlesex , England ) is a British sound engineer .
Life
Hartstone began his career in the early 1960s, making his film debut as an uncredited playback operator in Basil Dearden's film drama The Hot Night of 1962. In the same year he assisted the sound engineer on the comedy It's Crazy - The Ship's Cook Is Seasick . Until 1976 he worked on a total of eight films from the Carry-On film series , including A Strike Seldom Comes Alone and Savior of the Nation . In 1962 he also worked on the first film from the James Bond series, James Bond - 007 is chasing Dr. No . By 2002 he was involved in 16 of the 20 films produced, with the exception of James Bond 007 - You Only Live Twice , James Bond 007 - Diamond Fever , James Bond 007 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service and James Bond 007 - Octopussy . Except for George Lazenby , he had worked with all previous Bond actors.
Hartstone was nominated several times for his work for the Oscar and the BAFTA Film Award , each in the category Best Sound. He received his first nomination for an Oscar in 1979 for Superman . In 1985 he was nominated for Trip to India , and in 1987 for Aliens - The Return . In 1983 Hartstone was nominated for two BAFTA Film Awards , for Blade Runner and Pink Floyd - The Wall . He received the award for Alan Parker's on the Pink Floyd - concept album The Wall based feature film of the same name. Two more nominations followed, in 1987 for Aliens - The Return and 1996 for James Bond 007 - Goldeneye .
In 2005 Hartstone initially retired from the film business, but appeared again in 2012 as a consultant for the psychological thriller Berberian Sound Studio .
