The increasing number of parishioners and students from an affiliated school made it necessary to build a permanent church. The new Church of Our Lady of Lourdes and St Michael was built in 1931 to a design by THB Scott in neo-Romanesque style in Oxford Road and was consecrated in 1936 after all construction costs had been paid.
