Lois Burwell

Lois Burwell (* 1960 in London , England ) is a British make- up artist .

Life

Burwell grew up in London and initially worked for music videos during her training. In 1981 she had her first feature film engagement as a makeup artist for the Scottish coming-of-age comedy Gregory's Girl by Bill Forsyth . In 1985 she worked on the US co-production Legend by Ridley Scott . This was followed by other successful British film productions such as Highlander - There Can Only Be One and the Mona Lisa before she moved to the USA at the end of the 1980s. She received an Oscar in 1995 for her work on Braveheart . Three years later she married the cameraman John Toll , who had also received an Oscar for Braveheart and with whom she worked on five films between 1995 and 2003. In 1999 she received a second Oscar nomination for Saving Private Ryan , but the award went to Jenny Shircore for Elizabeth . Burwell worked frequently with Steven Spielberg , starting with the Spielberg-produced comedy Wrong Play with Roger Rabbit . Between 1998 and 2016 she was involved as a make-up artist in six directorial works by Spielberg. In 2014 she was a juror in the Syfy reality show Face Off , which is looking for talents in the field of special effects and makeup.
