Ve Neill (* 1951 in Riverside , California ), actually Mary Flores , is an American makeup artist .

Life

Neill grew up in Culver City and Granada Hills . Her neighbor there, Leo Lotito, worked as a make-up artist, which is one of the reasons why this career aspiration came about early on. She first worked as a make-up and costume designer for a rock band, where she met the special effects artist and make-up artist Steve Neill . She had her first feature film engagement in 1977 as a hairdresser for Albert Bands comedy The Great Story of the C. Together with Steve Neill, she was hired by Band's son, the B-movie producer Charles Band, for Laserkill - death rays from space . She had her breakthrough as a makeup artist in 1979 when she worked on Star Trek: The Movie and was nominated for a Saturn Award . She subsequently worked on some less successful science fiction films and was a makeup artist on the set of the television series The A-Team between 1983 and 1986 .

Received a boost her career after 1987 Joel Schumacher at the Horror - Comedy The Lost Boys had worked and the following year for Tim Burton's Beetlejuice the Oscar was awarded. Since then she has worked on almost all of Burton's films. For their next films together, Edward Scissorhands , Batman Returns and Jimmy Hoffa , they each received an Oscar nomination; In 1995 she won her third Oscar for Ed Wood , after winning her second Oscar the year before for Mrs. Doubtfire . Neill worked several times with Steven Spielberg and was involved in all of the films in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy between 2003 and 2007 , for which she received two other Oscar nominations. Since 2010 she has been on the jury of the Syfy show Face Off , in which special-effect make-up artists compete against each other.
