Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl ( 1982 ) is a comedy - film a stage show of the British comedy troupe Monty Python in the Hollywood Bowl . It's a review of successful skits from the Monty Python's Flying Circus series, as well as some new material with a sense of humor that was later referred to as "pythonesque". Like the television series, the storyline of the stage show is not continuous; Most skits do not have their own punchline, but rather flow seamlessly into the next. In the case of film recordings on a big screen, scenes that were produced for the German version of Monty Python's flying circus and that had never been shown in the English-speaking world up to that point were also used.

The show was one of several stage shows that were performed as part of an American tour. The show was recorded on video over four evenings from September 26-29, 1980, transferred to film material and released in cinemas on June 25, 1982. Compared to the TV originals, some skits had to be modified, for example because there weren't that many supporting actors available. For example, the “Lumberjack Song” is sung by Eric Idle instead of Michael Palin . In addition, Terry Gilliam , who was seldom seen in the television series and was actually responsible for the animations, is used more often.
