John Refoua

John D. Refoua (born August 20, 1960 ) is an American film editor .

Life

After studying at Oberlin College from 1976 to 1980 and earning his bachelor's degree in economics at the age of 19, John Refoua began his career as an editor in 1990 on the crime television series Twin Peaks , where he assisted film editing on two episodes . Since his first mainly edited television episode of the action series Raven , Refoua worked exclusively on television series, until his first feature film followed in 1999, the comedy Soft Toilet Seats .

When he was hired as editor for the series Dark Angel , he met the producer and director James Cameron know. After editing Cameron's The Spirits of the Titanic , they worked together on Avatar - Departure to Pandora . Refoua was hired right from the start of the project. And after it was initially only said that he would only edit Avatar for 6 weeks , it became more than 126 weeks of editing in a row. For this 2.5 year long editing marathon he received several national and international film awards together with James Cameron and Stephen E. Rivkin ; Among other things, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing and a nomination from the British Academy Film Award for Best Editing .

He has worked regularly with director Antoine Fuqua since the 2013 film Olympus Has Fallen - The World in Danger .
