Stephen E. Rivkin (* 1953 or 1954 ) is an American film editor .

Life

Rivkin grew up in St. Louis Park , Minnesota , in the 1960s . While both his older brother David ( electric guitar ) and his younger brother Bobby ( drums ) occupied themselves a lot with music, his interests were diversified. While he left the band, his brothers continued with the music. So Bobby played in Prince's band and David later became a well-known music producer. After everyone went to Brookside School , Stephen devoted himself to his passion and went to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design . After graduating, he worked for a while as an editor for industrial filmsbefore later editing his first feature film, The Personals .

Rivkin has worked with a number of greats throughout his career including Mel Brooks , Michael Mann , Gore Verbinski , Jerry Bruckheimer and James Cameron . Since the late 1990s, he has, with the exception of The Statement , exclusively with the Editor of blockbusters busy. These included all three Pirates of the Caribbean parts, as well as action films such as Password: Swordfish and Stealth - Under the Radar , and most recently the highest-grossing film of all time, Avatar - Departure to Pandora . Because of the new 3D technology , there were additional new work processes and difficulties. Rivkin said that “from start to finish, Avatar has been the greatest creative challenge he has ever faced. But this opened his eyes to the unlimited possibilities of filmmaking. ” (“ From start to finish, Avatar was the biggest creative challenge I've ever faced - but it opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities of filmmaking. ”) This achievement earned him a variety of awards, including nominations for Oscar and British Academy Film Awards .

Outside of his work, Rivkin got involved as a member of the American Cinema Editors 2011 for an action that encouraged different film festivals, provided that they award film prizes for film technology, also to advertise a prize for film editing. Rivkin also appears at events and workshops, in 2010 he was the main speaker at the IBC's Digital Media Training Workshop .
