action

The 17-year-old Anton does nothing but watch TV and smoke weed all day . When his parents seem to have disappeared without a trace on Halloween morning , he doesn't worry much - until he finds their mutilated corpses in the living room decorated as Halloween monsters. As it turns out, Anton's right-hand man has developed a murderous life of its own and has recently been assassinating without Anton noticing or being able to do anything about it. Anton's best friends Mick and Pnub also have to believe when they hang out with him again. Pnub is beheaded in the basement by Anton on the run with a circular saw blade, and Mick is rammed a glass bottle in the forehead by Anton. But since the two of them simply like life in all its forms too much, they return as zombies when Anton tries to bury them. From then on, they stand by Anton, albeit with the help of dangerous half-knowledge and courageous but relatively useless actions.

First of all, Anton tries to follow the advice of a friend by permanently "employing" his hand. So he tries his hand at crocheting scarves. When two ex-classmates, who are now policemen, see Anton's dead buddies sitting in the living room, they storm the house, but are immediately killed by a maddening hand. Meanwhile, Mick and Pnub realize that with a little skill they are guaranteed to win the prize for the best costumes at the Halloween party. So Mick got the idea to fix Pnub's head, which has been lying on the armchair all the time since his death and watching TV, on his neck with barbecue tongs.

When Anton realizes that his killer hand is targeting pretty Molly, with whom Anton has just gotten together after years of longing, in order to take her to hell, he chops off the murderous body part without further ado. But the killer hand lives on even without Anton. Anton manages to lock it in the microwave, but shortly afterwards Mick and Pnub inadvertently free her hand and flees through the window when they want to warm up a burrito. Finally, she takes Molly under control at the school's Halloween party and ties her to a car roof in the school garage so that she can be lifted to a pentagram drawn on the ceiling and taken to hell.

As it turns out, Anton and his two zombie friends aren't the only ones chasing after the killer hand. The druid priestess Debi LeCure is also after the murderous part of the body. She found out that to end the curse once and for all, the one whose hand is possessed must be killed with a dagger. First she wants to kill Anton, but when she realizes that his murderous hand is already gone, they chase after the escaped body part together.

Molly has already got her hand in her fingers, tied it up and wants to take it to hell when Anton, Mick and Pnub appear. They want to prevent the hand clad in a hand puppet from using the lifting platform, but Mick and Pnub discover a modified car exhaust in the workshop, which they use as a whistle and first pull one through. Just before the hand manages to press Molly against the ceiling with the lifting platform, Anton takes a deep drag from the pipe and breathes the smoke under the fabric of the puppet. Then the now stoned hand is pierced with the dagger and disappears with a small "pouf". Molly is saved, everything seems to be fine. But just as Anton is about to kiss his girlfriend, he is pushed to the ground by the car on the lifting platform and breaks all his bones, so that he ends up in the hospital with a full body cast.

Three days later: The zombies Mick and Pnub want to step into the afterlife, but first visit Anton in the hospital. After a little chat, they want to leave, but they can't help but scare their friend Anton off by making him believe that the killer hand still exists and is on the hunt.

background

The US film release of The Killer Hand was postponed after the Littleton School Massacre, because in the film, regardless of the comedy and fantasy elements, a teenager kills his parents and friends.

On a budget of $ 20 million, the film only grossed $ 4 million.

criticism

“One day before Halloween, a small American town is struck by a gruesome series of murders. The perpetrator is the 'killer hand' of a notorious idler who leads a bloody life of its own. Even when the young man gets rid of the murderous part of his body by self-amputation, the morbid spook is not over. A declining, sometimes boring attempt to combine the splatter genre with teenage comedy. The bizarre humor and punk rock songs are supposed to hide the lack of depth of the plot. "

particularities

Diegetic music is predominantly used in the film, which helps the viewer to empathize with the film.

The director filmed each shot from a different camera angle to show the "crazy" position of the main actor.

Blink-182 guitarist Tom DeLonge and Tenacious D guitarist Kyle Gass have brief guest appearances as waitresses in a fast food restaurant.

The former playmate Kelly Monaco can be seen in a small role as the kiss girl "Tiffany" .

In addition, the punk band The Offspring has an appearance at the Halloween festival in the school. They play two songs before frontman Dexter Holland is scalped after a brief speaking role. One of the songs is called Beheaded from their debut album The Offspring . The other is a cover of the Ramones song I wanna be sedated .

The movie scene that Mike and Pnub watch on Anton's television is from the 1978 horror film Zombie (Dawn of the Dead) by George A. Romero .
