Chris Innis

Christina Jean Innis (born March 20, 1966 in San Diego , California ) is an American film editor and Oscar winner.

Life

Chris Innis is the oldest of three children of the architect Donald Innis (* 1931). She studied film at the University of California, Berkeley , where she graduated with a BA. During her studies she did her first internships in the film business and in 1987 she worked for the first time as an assistant editor for the independent production West Is West by David Rathod . Innis then completed postgraduate studies at the California Institute of the Arts and earned an MFA. She made several student films, including the 1990 short Love Pig based on a short story by Charles Bukowski , and worked on music videos and karaoke videos. At that time she gained practical experience in the editing room, especially with Pietro Scalia , for whom she initially worked as an intern (1991 with the Oscar-winning JFK ), then as an assistant editor (1995 with The Quick and the Dead and the pilot for American Gothic ) and finally as co -Editor (1997 at GI Jane ).

While working on the American Gothic (1995/96) produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert , Innis met her future husband, Bob Murawski , who had worked as a film editor for Raimi since Army of Darkness (1992). Innis subsequently worked on several Sam Raimi films edited by Murawski: She was responsible for the music editing of The Gift (2000) and Spider-Man (2002), and was the assistant editor for Spider-Man 3 (2007).

Innis has also been involved in the restoration and remastering of classic horror films by directors such as Umberto Lenzi , Ruggero Deodato and Lucio Fulci for the DVD labels Grindhouse Releasing and Box Office Spectaculars run by her husband since the late 1990s .

The first feature film in which Innis and Murawski were jointly responsible for editing was The Hurt Locker by director Kathryn Bigelow, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August 2008 . For this work, the two received the Eddie Award of the ACE , the BAFTA Award , the Boston Society of Film Critics Award and the Oscar in 2010 .
