Ruggero Deodato (born May 7, 1939 in Potenza , Basilicata ) is an Italian film director , actor and screenwriter who is known for his controversial films.

life and work

Deodato began his career as assistant director to Roberto Rossellini , later working for Antonio Margheriti and Sergio Corbucci . He directed his first film for Margheriti, although he was not mentioned for advertising reasons. He directed a few adventure films until 1969 and then switched to television for a few years.

Deodato became internationally known with the second phase of his cinema career. From 1975 he directed several films that were controversial because of their brutality, including Cannibal Holocaust . From the mid-1980s, Deodato worked increasingly for television again.

Deodato was a guest actor in the role of a cannibal in Hostel 2 . He performed from May 4 to 6, 2012 together with his compatriot and Italo horror genre legend Lamberto Bava at the Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012. In 2016 he made a horror film with Ballad in Blood again after a long time.
