Ballad in Blood is a 2016 Italian thriller directed by Ruggero Deodato . The film is loosely based on the murder of Meredith Kercher .

action

After a dissolute night of partying, Lenka, her friend Jacopo and her roommate Duke wake up with a classic film tear . That would not be so bad in itself, had it not been for the murder of the student Elizabeth in her apartment that night. The three comrades in fate try to fill the gaps last night with their memories, plus the videos on the deceased's cell phone.

The three decide to cover up the murder first. To do this, a witness has to disappear and of course the corpse has to be disposed of. However, the plans all fail due to the inability of the three. A fake woman is accidentally murdered while Duke and Jacopo also mess with a horde of drug addicts who supplied Duke with fabric.

Ultimately, the three get on the track of last night's secret, with various theories ultimately floating around. So it is clear that Lenka and Elizabeth couldn't stand each other. Lenka took advantage of a costume party. Because she knew that Elizabeth was disgusted with black people. Intoxicated by doges and alcohol, they let Elizabeth be seduced by Duke and led them into her apartment. There they dropped Duke's mask and forced Elizabeth to have sex with him. Exactly who killed her now is not revealed. The three suspect each other and kill each other during the showdown.

background

Ruggero Deodata was inspired by the Meredith Kercher murder. The 21-year-old exchange student was found dead on November 1, 2007 in an apartment in Perugia. She had sixteen bruises, seven stab wounds and was raped before she died. Another exchange student, her boyfriend and a burglar from Africa were suspected at the time. The case was never fully resolved, especially since the defendants became entangled in contradictions and several court judgments came to different results. In the end, the burglar was sentenced to 15 years in prison while the other exchange student and her boyfriend were acquitted. Deodata took up the story and wrote a script with Jacopo Mazzuoli and Angelo Orlando . The shooting took place in the tourist town of Orvieto . It was Deodato's first feature film in 23 years.

The film premiered on April 5, 2016 at the Lucca Film Festival in Tuscany. In Germany, the film was released in 2018 on Blu-Ray and DVD in its uncut version.

reception

Guy Montag discussed the film for Splatting Image and came to the following conclusion: “Deodato knows what he owes his audience and, taking into account the means available, delivered an entertaining thrill with a dash and an Italian touch. As a tried and tested genre fan, you can easily get your money's worth here - rooms in this flat are always available for interested subtenants. "
