Margheriti started short films and some screenplays in 1956; early on he was a specialist in special effects and was enthusiastic about the "fantastic film". In all of his films he was responsible for the pyrotechnic parts that he staged. Never aiming to create 'art', he was and remained a craftsman in the cinema who was committed to the entertainment of his audience.

He pursued this goal in almost 50 films; he worked in all genres that were currently popular. So he started with the so-called 'Mondo' films , shot peplums , science fiction and horror films as well as westerns and comedies . He always created good consumer goods.

His great love, however, was the action film, in which he was able to give free rein to his talent for explosions, mostly made with miniature models.

In the 80s he made three action films with Lewis Collins in the lead role, in which Manfred Lehmann and Thomas Danneberg had starred.

He directed Claude Rains , Yul Brynner , Lee van Cleef , Jane Birkin , Serge Gainsbourg , John Saxon , Anthony Quinn , Christopher Lee , Richard Harrison , Klaus Kinski , Ernest Borgnine , Terence Hill and Lee Majors . The cameraman Riccardo Pallottini , film editor Otello Colangeli and the actor Luciano Pigozzi (frequent pseudonym: Alan Collins) belonged to Margheriti's 'regular team' .

His son Edoardo cultivates the memory of his father with memorabilia for his films.
