action

Napoleon Higgins makes the American West happy with his elixir of life , which he brings to the gullible people. When one day, on the run from angry customers, he sought refuge in a cave near the Alamo, he met the ghost of Davy Crockett, who took him under his powerful wing from then on. Thanks to him Napoleon escaped the gang of the Mexican Garcia; In return he tries to bring Davy back together with his old flame Katie (who also knows about the hidden treasure of the old fort). Napoleon, Davy, Katie and their lovely niece Rosy travel together to Dusty City. On the way they are attacked again by Garcia, who is severely beaten by Napoleon's invisible friend. Having become brave, Napoleon is now looking for the people behind the gang around the Mexican. To do this, they want to use Katie's treasure, but are prevented several times by fights between Davy's ghost and his opponents (the ghosts of Pecos Bill and Johnny Appleseed). Eventually, the treasure turns out to be a large amount of whiskey. Napoleon and Rosy get married and open a saloon.

criticism

According to genre expert Christian Keßler, the film is pleasing "with its appropriate speed and spectacularly staged action sequences" . The slapstick scenes of the “somewhat elaborately produced” work are “not hilarious, but amusing”.

Remarks

The Italian production partner's title is Whiskey e fantasmi ("Whiskey and Ghosts").

A performance in German-speaking countries was planned under the title “Two great dogs in the wildest west”.

A single from the soundtrack was released in 1976 with the titles Whiskey e chitarre and Napoleone e famtasmi (United Artists UA 35753).
