The hunters of the golden goddess (OT: La leggenda del rubino malese , English title: Jungle Raiders ) is an Italian adventure film from 1985. Directed by Antonio Margheriti under the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson.

action

Malaysia 1938: Duke, called "Captain Yankee " by the natives , a former mercenary , organizes expeditions for bored snobs together with his best friend, the drinker "Gin Fizz" . He has a deal with the natives to make the adventure more exciting. One day he gets an assignment from an old friend Warren to help Maria Janez, an archaeologist , to recover a red ruby from under a volcano. At first he refuses, but Warren blackmails him.

Together with Maria Janez he goes to the volcano, where the two accidentally find the cave. What they don't know: Tiger, head of a drug cartel , is also after the stone that is supposed to make him the Mogul of Malaysia. He takes the two prisoners just as they have found the stone. However, Duke can outsmart Tiger and free himself and Maria. In doing so, however, he almost explodes the volcano. In the general confusion, Duke and Maria flee. However, Tiger thinks they are dead. With Gin Fizz they penetrate the base of Tiger, free the captured villagers and blow up the camp with the help of a bulldozer and a flamethrower .

Tiger then takes his next stroke. He gets rid of the arms dealer with whom he used to work and arms his remaining men. What he doesn't know, however, is that Warren has meanwhile prepared the arms dealer's base with explosive charges. When the explosions begin, however, Duke is also on the premises. He can defeat Tiger in a duel and takes the ruby. Then he flees with Maria and Gin Fizz.

background

The Italian director Antonio Margheriti used the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson quite often in his cheap productions based on American successes. The Hunter of the Golden Goddess is an obvious rip-off of the Indiana Jones series, starring Christopher Connelly . Production was taken over by the B-film production company Cannon Films .

Film bug

  • In 1938 there was no state of Malaysia. Independence from the British Empire did not take place until 1963.
  • The German distribution title is incorrect. A goddess is not named, instead it is about a ruby belonging to a Malaysian ruler.

criticism

The lexicon of international film judges: “Conventional adventure film; Unimaginatively staged and garnished with lots of fire and explosions. "
