The Commander is a German-Italian adventure film by Antonio Margheriti from 1988. The film premiered in Germany on April 28, 1988 and was shown in Italy under the title Il Triangolo della paura .

action

Commander Jack Colby of the Anti-Drug Unit is a difficult operations specialist. That is why he received an order from Mazzarini, an ex-mercenary, to put together a group of mercenaries in Bangkok to destroy the world's largest raw opium warehouse in the Golden Triangle, the main hub in the international drug trade. Meanwhile, the international drug defense staff meets in Berlin . Carlson, the chairman of the committee, smuggles the agent Wild Bill Hickock into Colby's mercenary force in order to gain possession of a compromising CD-ROM. This CD contains recordings and data that would expose high-level drug investigators as members of the drug mafia who infiltrated the unit. Colby, who does not know this whole background, has in the meantime succeeded in destroying the raw opium reserves in Indonesia. But when he and the surviving mercenaries are to be picked up by a Mazzarini helicopter and taken out of the country, the latter turns out to be the man behind the drug deals. Colby can only survive his attack with extreme effort.

criticism

The film is rated as a B-movie by critics .

The lexicon of international film has a devastating verdict: "A speculative mercenary film with all the inglorious trademarks of the genre: weapon cult, racist enemy images and a neo-colonialist view of the countries of the 'Third World'."

Telesette “expected something more from Margheriti, our factotum of commercial cinema”.
