action

Gary Hamilton is released after ten years in a prison camp and wants revenge on Acombar, the person who stole his money, his villa, his wife Maria and his freedom. On the way to him he meets the ignorant Dick Acombar, the son of his enemy, returning home in the horse-drawn carriage and announces his arrival at the villa that evening.

Dick forwards the announcement from Hamilton and is amazed at the violent reaction from his father. He puts a $ 10,000 bounty on Hamilton. A tornado is on the horizon. The city is taking precautions. Acombar's men attempt to ambush Hamilton on the outskirts, but the looming storm allows him to get into town unnoticed. Hamilton uses the tornado, the darkness and the caves under the city to keep popping up and down like a ghost, gradually taking out Acombar's men.

Meanwhile, Acombar and Maria celebrate the return of Dick over dinner. Having become suspicious of the shooting in the city, he leaves the villa. He learns the whole story from the old doctor and saloon owner Rosie: that Acombar cheated on his former friend Hamilton and his wife, robbed a money transport and killed several men in the process, and blamed Hamilton for it.

Gary Hamilton invades Acombar's mansion. Confused and nervous, the father accidentally shoots the son and then kills Maria, too, furious with grief. After the last duel, Acombar, shot by Hamilton, falls into the treasury of the burning villa. The next morning the storm has subsided and Hamilton rides on.

Reviews

"The best Antonio Margheriti western"

- Ulrich P. Bruckner, For a few more corpses

Christian Kessler writes that the director pulls out all the stops of gothic horror cinema

"Kinski is the personified god of vengeance, who rides into the corrupt environment like a supernatural being and who now exercises his well-deserved retribution."

Camera work and the soundtrack are also highlighted.

“Kinski is the elemental force of the earth - allied with the elements water (the drops), fire (the power line), earth (the Indian cemetery) and air (the storm) - who fights injustice; God's punishment for "Cain" Acombar "

- Wolfgang Luley / Daniel Maier, Religion im Spaghetti-Western in: Booklet for the Hallelujah DVD box
