The Treasure in Space is a seven-part science fiction television series that was created in 1986/1987 in a German-Italian-French cooperation under the direction of Antonio Margheriti . The novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson served as a template . In addition to the series, a film has also been released. A DVD of the series was released in 2008 by the Euro Video studio.

In the future: twelve-year-old Jim lives with his mother and fatally ill father in an old lighthouse in Sicily. There they run the Al Convegno Spaziale inn .

One day, Billy Bones, an old spaceship pilot who has become a physical wreck from drug use, enters the inn. He decides to stay for some time. At some point Jim learns from Billy Bones that he is in possession of a map that should lead to a great treasure. However, Jim is shocked to learn that some pirates are also interested in this plan.

After Billy Bones dies, Jim takes the plan and flies with Doctor Livesy, Count Ravano and Captain Smolett to the planet where the treasure is buried. On board the Hispaniola are John Silver and several other pirates. A dispute arises on the planet.

In a dramatic finale, the treasure hunters actually find the treasure before the pirates. After this is ensured, they return to earth and leave the pirates to their fate. Only Long John Silver manages to get on board the Hispaniola. Shortly before landing on earth, he says goodbye to Jimmy with a present and uses a shuttle to go his own way. Before taking off, he shows Jimmy that he has taken a small part of the huge treasure.
