Sourdough Mountain Lookout

The Sourdough Mountain Lookout is a cabin built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933 near the summit for the early detection of forest fires. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 .

There was a smaller refuge since 1917, which was demolished when the current observation building was being built. The current building stands on a rock and has a footprint of 4.33 m × 4.33 m. The building has a wooden shingle roof. Diagonally reinforced shutters could be opened in all directions for observation. The building is no longer used to fight forest fires, but it is often visited by hikers as it can be reached via a footpath that is only 8.0 km long.
