Le Morne-Rouge is a commune in the overseas department of Martinique . Until its dissolution in 2015, it was the main town (chief lieu) and the only municipality in the canton of Le Morne-Rouge . The residents call themselves Péléens or Péléene .

economy

The village is known for the production of bananas and pineapples .

geography

The village at the stratovolcano Mount Pelée and the mountain range carbet mountains located approximately 450 m. ü. The Route de la Trace , which passes the Tunnel de Deux Choux there, ends at the municipal marker .
