Le François is a French commune with 16,949 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of Martinique . It belongs to the Arrondissement Le Marin and was the capital of two cantons ( Canton Le François-1 North and Canton Le François-2 Sud ) until its dissolution in 2015 .

The municipality is located on the eastern coast of the island, 20 kilometers east of the capital Fort-de-France .
