The hospital Tirschenreuth is an acute care hospital under public ownership in the Bavarian district town Tirschenreuth . It belongs to the network of Kliniken Nordoberpfalz and is the largest hospital in the Tirschenreuth district with 165 beds .

history

The history of the hospital goes back to the beginning of the 19th century. The city sold the poor house for the construction of a hospital and contributed the proceeds as well as the timber for the construction of the hospital. The remaining costs were borne by the municipalities of the regional court district, with the exception of Bärnau . Construction began in 1816.

The inauguration of the district hospital in the building on Mühlbühlstrasse, in which the Johann-Andreas-Schmeller-Mittelschule is located today, followed on December 13th, 1819. In 1855 the management was transferred to the merciful sisters.

In 1863 the capacity of the house was increased by stopping the intake of poor people and the resulting increase in the capacity. Even before the First World War , the population growth made it necessary to expand the hospital. The building was increased by one floor and now had a doctor's room, a laboratory, nurses and utility rooms, a men's department with an X-ray and radiation room, a women's department, a dressing room, a sterilization facility, an operating room and a house chapel.

Due to the further rapid increase in population during and after the Second World War , the city's hospital reached its capacity with 45 beds. On August 7, 1951, the district council decided to build a new district hospital in St.-Peter-Straße. Construction began in April 1952 and in December 1953 the new building with 140 beds was put into operation.

In 1964 the hospital was expanded and in 1975 a vocational school for nursing was established.

In the years 1998 to 2003 the building was completely renovated.

The hospital is included in the Bavarian hospital plan as a plan hospital.
