Le Marin is a French commune with 8,791 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the overseas department of Martinique in the Martinique region . Along with Saint-Pierre and La Trinité, Le Marin is one of the three sub-prefectures in Martinique.
geography
Le Marin is located in the south of the Caribbean island of Martinique. The municipality extends from the historic center in a deep bay of the Caribbean Sea to the Atlantic coast in the east.
The place is an important holiday center. Its port is the starting point for trips to nearby coral reefs and crossings in the direction of St. Lucia , St. Vincent and the Grenadines . The marina of Le Marin is one of the largest in the Caribbean.
history
- The French founded one of their first Martinique settlements in the bay of Le Marin.
- Remains of the fortification are evidence of repeated clashes with England.
Attractions
- The church of Saint-Étienne , built in 1766 in the Jesuit style, is one of the most beautiful monuments in Martinique. It has a magnificent marble altar with statuettes that are well worth seeing .
