Randy Thom

David Randall "Randy" Thom (* 1951 in Shreveport , Louisiana ) is an American sound designer and sound engineer who has won two Academy Awards .

Life

Thom began his career as a sound engineer at a radio station in Berkeley . In 1975 he introduced himself to Walter Murch while he was working on American graffiti . As a result, he got a job as a recording technician in the post-production of Apocalypse Now . From 1980 he worked in films by George Lucas and in 1983 got a permanent job at his Skywalker Sound . He worked with Robert Zemeckis , Francis Ford Coppola , Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton . In 1986 he participated in Mel Brooks ' Star Wars - parody Spaceballs with.

Thom was awarded two Oscars and received 14 other Oscar nominations. He has also received five Golden Reel Awards , was nominated for an Emmy and twice for the British BAFTA Award .

His older brother Harold Thom (1934-2013) was a well-known folk musician in Louisiana and Kentucky in the 1960s.
