action
Pete Sandich is a pilot of fire-fighting planes used to fight forest fires. He has a relationship with Dorinda Durston, who thinks his job is too dangerous and asks him to look for another job. Sandich finds another job, but flies one last fire-fighting mission. His plane - a Douglas A-26 Invader from World War II - catches fire and Pete dies.
From then on, the ghost of Pete protects the young pilot Ted Baker. Baker falls in love with Dorinda Durston.
When Ted volunteers to fly a dangerous mission, Dorinda hijacks his plane and completes the mission herself, but in the end has to complete a ditching . But Pete's ghost helps her to get through the life-threatening situation. He tells her everything Pete wanted to say to her when he was alive, and says goodbye when Dorinda is saved and back with Ted Baker.
Reviews
- Rita Kempley wrote in the Washington Post on December 22, 1989 that one could fall asleep while watching ( sleepy update of a Spencer Tracy wartime fantasy ). The scriptwriter has nothing to say. The film is an unfulfilled promise .
“Remake of 'A Guy Named Joe' (1943); In the shift of the melodramatic story to the present day it is not very convincing and inconsistent in its design. Perfect action scenes and a few nice examples of old-fashioned illusion cinemas ensure a certain amount of pleasure. "
