Kathleen Kennedy (born June 5, 1953 in Berkeley , California ) is an American film producer .

Career

Kennedy studied film in San Diego and got into the film business through an assistant job with John Milius . She made her debut as a producer in 1982 with ET - The Extra Terrestrial . This was the beginning of her collaboration with director Steven Spielberg , who directed the film, which continues to this day .

She founded the film and television production company Amblin Entertainment in 1983 with her husband Frank Marshall , who also worked as a film producer and Spielberg . In 1992, she and her husband founded the production company The Kennedy / Marshall Company , which mainly produces films outside of Amblin Entertainment. She and her husband have two children together.

In the course of her career, eight of her previous cinema productions have been nominated for the Oscar in the category Best Picture , but without one of them winning the award, which for Kennedy means not only the second most nominations after Steven Spielberg but also the most without a win. In 1997 she was honored with the George Pal Memorial Award at the Saturn Awards . In 2010 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . In 2018, she and her husband received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy at the Academy Awards for the following year .

Since the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney in October 2012, Kathleen Kennedy has been responsible for all projects as the new President of Lucasfilm. As a producer, she was instrumental in the Star Wars films The Force Awakens , Rogue One , The Last Jedi , Solo and The Rise of Skywalker .
