Dad is an American drama from 1989 . Directed by Gary David Goldberg , who also wrote the screenplay based on a novel by William Wharton and co-produced the film.

action

John Tremont, who works as a manager, learns that his mother has had a heart attack . Furthermore, it turns out that his father Jake has cancer . John returns to his hometown, devotes more time to his father and gets closer to him. He also gets closer to his own son Billy, who wants to drop out of college and live in a commune in Mexico . Jake later falls into a coma and wakes up after a while. John and the attending physician seek a medical explanation and agree that the best sounding one is that John's love and care brought his father back.

Jake dies some time later. The film ends with the family funeral service.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on October 27, 1989 that the story told produced "disbelief . " If you just told it, it would move the audience.

Film-Dienst wrote that the film offered “a cinema of reconciliation developed in warm colors, which at times was emotionally too thick” and lost sight of reality” . He gains in effect "through the excellent Jack Lemmon and some realistic highlights" .

Cinema magazine wrote that the film was a "puss" that was "worth seeing thanks to Jack Lemmon" . The editors quoted the director as saying that the film addresses "the obligation of generations to be there for one another" .
