Amber Riley
Amber Riley (* 15. February 1986 in Los Angeles , California as Amber Patrice Riley ) is an American actress and singer who her role as Mercedes Jones in the series Glee is known.
Life
Riley applied to the American Idol casting show but was turned down by the producers. She graduated from La Mirada , California high school in 2004 . In 2007, Riley auditioned for the role of Effie in Dreamgirls but was turned down because of her age.
Riley played the role of Mercedes Jones in the series Glee from 2009 , for which she received a nomination for the NAACP Image Award as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 . In addition, she was honored with a Screen Actors Guild Award ( Future Classic Award ) in 2010 for her acting performance with other cast members of the series and was nominated for the Teen Choice Award in the Female Scene Stealer category.
In November 2012, she made her stage debut in the off-Broadway revue Cotton Club Parade in New York.
On November 26, 2013, despite a knee injury , she won the 17th season of the US dance show Dancing with the Stars together with her dance partner Derek Hough .
In November 2016, Amber Riley made her debut in the role of Effie Melody White in the musical Dreamgirls in London's West End . For this role, she received the Laurence Olivier Award in the category Best Actress in a Musical on April 9, 2017 in the Royal Albert Hall .
