The Messeschnellweg is a four-lane motorized road in Hanover . It connects the two sections of the A 37 .

course

The Messeschnellweg begins in the north in the Groß-Buchholz district at junction 5 Hanover-Misburg on the A 37. It runs southwards east of Hanover city center through the Eilenriede . Then it leads past the eponymous exhibition center in the Mittelfeld district and ends in Laatzen-Mitte . Here it goes back to the A 37 (junction 11 exhibition grounds), while at the same time the B 6 branches off in a southerly direction.

Preparations for the construction of the Messeschnellweg began as early as 1949. Together with the Südschnellweg , Westschnellweg and other expressways , it is part of the concept developed by the city planner at the time, Rudolf Hillebrecht , to route long-distance traffic around the city center. The construction of the expressway through the middle of the Hanover city forest Eilenriede led to violent protests in the population, as a result of which the city finally constituted the Eilenriede advisory board in 1956.

The expressway is developed as a four-lane motor road. It has been free of crossings since 1998 (completion of the underpass at the horse tower crossing ) and some of it has a hard shoulder. A traffic control system makes it possible to use this as an additional lane for major events. During the major trade fairs ( Hanover Fair , Cebit at the turn of the millennium , later Agritechnica ), the Messeschnellweg is regulated as a one-way street at peak times (arrival and departure, sometimes only on the busiest days), so that four lanes can be used in one direction are.

Integration into the Hanover expressway system

In the north of the Groß-Buchholz district, the Messeschnellweg merges into the “Moorautobahn” A 37 at the Hannover-Misburg junction , which in turn later merges into the B 3 towards Celle at Burgdorf . About the motorway junction Hannover / Kirchhorst which also is A 7 reached.

In the northern section to the Seelhorster Kreuz , the Messeschnellweg is part of the B 3 , south of it part of the B 6 . At the Seelhorster Kreuz, the Südschnellweg crosses and with it the B 65 .

South of the exhibition grounds on the city limits with Laatzen , the Messeschnellweg merges back into the A 37. Here the B 6 branches off to the south at the junction Hannover-Messegelände , which shortly afterwards crosses the B 443 . The A 37 leads to the A 7 in the Hanover-Süd motorway triangle .
