The Bremen Weser Tunnel is a section of the A 281 that has been under construction since 2019 to cross under the Weser . The tunnel will have a length of 1095 meters.

Planning and construction history

The project was classified as urgent in 2016 with the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030 . Private financing of the project failed, which is why the cost of the construction project of 345 million euros is largely borne by the federal government. Bremen is contributing 1.2 million euros, which arose from the additional costs of moving the tunnel entrance in favor of the residents of Seehausen .

The construction work on the new Weser Tunnel began in the second week of January 2019. First of all, preparatory measures such as clearing and demolition work will be carried out, so that construction on the actual tunnel is expected to start at the end of 2020. On the Seehauser side, a construction time of two and a half years is calculated. The opening is Template: future / in 4 yearsplanned for 2024 .

The residential area is to be protected from the noise emissions of the motorway by a 7.5 meter high noise barrier , which is officially declared as "building mass compensation" . The soil produced during the construction work is used for this. In July 2019, lines were laid, clearing was carried out and building site accesses were built, and the area was sounded out for ordnance . The actual start of construction has been delayed due to a lawsuit in the tendering process relating to construction supervision.

The actual construction work should begin in the fourth quarter of 2020.

technology

The Weser Tunnel is to be implemented as an immersed tunnel , with trough structures being brought into position using the floating and lowering method. The tunnel elements are to be transported through a flood channel, for which the dike is opened.

Traffic importance

The Weser Tunnel will provide a traffic connection between the A 1 and A 28 to the A 27 . The tunnel is to be used by 40,000 vehicles every day and thus relieve traffic in Bremen. The construction of the Weser Tunnel represents the completion of the motorway ring around the center of Bremen.
