Spreeau is a district of Grünheide (Mark) in the southeast of the greater Berlin area.

The districts of Freienbrink and Spreewerder belong to Spreeau. The community manor house, built in 1926, served as a "vacation property" for the GDR Ministry of the Interior during the GDR era . From a territorial point of view, however, it belongs to the neighboring district of Mönchwinkel . Spreeau is the namesake of the motorway triangle of the same name .

history

South entrance to the village

The municipality of Spreeau emerged on the right bank of the Müggelspree from small settlements that were created in the 17th and 18th centuries as living quarters for haylofters , tar hawkers, woodcutters and rural colonists. Around 1799/1800, seven of these residential spaces were merged to form the municipality of the 2nd Heath District. These were the residential areas Altmönchwinkel, Neumönchwinkel, Birkenwerder (later called Spreewerder), Storkowfort, Sieverslake, Freienbrink and Störitz. At the time the church was planted, they had about 110 inhabitants who lived in 14 houses.

Almost exactly 90 years later, in 1889, this municipality was given the name Spreeau. It initially had around 380 residents and around 50 residential buildings. With the approval of the Prussian State Ministry on March 12, 1927 and with effect from March 31, 1927, the districts of Altmönchwinkel and Neumönchwinkel separated from the municipality of Spreeau to form their own communities. From then on Spreeau consisted of the districts Spreewerder, Storkowfort (also called Spreeau), Sieverslake, Freienbrink and Störitz. History of the development of the residential areas: Sieverslake with the name Seyfertslache (also Siewert Lacken) was the first to be mentioned in 1510 as a border mark in two almost identical documents. The first known resident of Sieverslake was in 1647 the Teerschweler Johannes Bretsche. Around 1850 the former settlement Kolonistengut near Sieverslake was temporarily called Wilhelmsau. Storkowfort was first mentioned in the electoral register of Rüdersdorf in 1652. In 1681, the hull runner Martin Zahn is named as its first known resident. Birkenwerder , today Spreewerder , was mentioned as Berckenwerder in 1591 in a document about rights of use on the Spree. Freienbrink , previously called Räuberkuten, was founded in 1749 from “fresh roots” as a settlement for colonists. Colonists settled at the same time at Sieverslake, Storkowfort and Mönchwinkel, among others.

On October 26, 2003, Spreeau was incorporated into Grünheide (Mark).

On November 12, 2019, the US company Tesla announced that it would build its European “Gigafactory” for electric vehicles and batteries in Grünheide. According to press speculation, the billions in investment will create up to 10,000 jobs. The 300 hectare area north of the Freienbrink freight center is to serve as the location for this.
