Crumbach is a part of the municipality of Lohfelden in the Kassel district in northern Hesse .
location
Crumbach is the southwestern district of Lohfeldens. The district roads 8, 10 and 11 as well as the state road 3203 lead through Crumbach. West of the district, the federal highway 7 and the federal highway 49 meet at the Kassel interchange .
history
The St. Alban Abbey in front of Mainz owned 1008 rights in Crumbach, then in the 14th and 15th centuries the Archbishop of Mainz , the Kaufungen Abbey, the Weißenstein and Ahnaberg monasteries , the St. Martinsstift and the Carmelite monastery. The place is first mentioned in a document in 1102. Older forms of the name are Crumbelbach and Crombach. Since 1277 Crumbach belonged to the Amt Neustadt , an administrative district of the royal seat of Cassel.
The merchants' route from Regensburg and Nuremberg to Leipzig led through the village, on the routes of which shoemakers and linen weavers brought their goods from Spangenberg to Kassel in the 19th century. This route is known as the cobbler's path . Another over the Loh past the Ochshausen church into Lausitz. The paths were designated as Via Lusatica , Königsweg and Breiter Weg . In 1928 the steam mill in the Crumbacher Mühle was put into operation.
In the 19th century, the place was valued as an excursion destination for its view.
The communities of Ochshausen and Crumbach formed the new community of Lohfelden in 1941, which Vollmarshausen joined as part of the 1970 regional reform.
Townscape
The townscape is characterized by half-timbered houses, of which the house at Bachstrasse 19 from the 17th century is the oldest; it was first mentioned in 1680.
The Löwenhof was mentioned in a document as early as 1356, with the exception of a vaulted cellar, the buildings date from the 19th and early 20th centuries. One part of the yard serves as a riding stables, the other as an event hall.
The Evangelical Church of Crumbach was mentioned in 1368, a defense tower was integrated into it, which has been the church tower since then. In 1790, two mulberry trees were planted on the slope below the church, which still exist today.
During the founding period, the butcher's Sturm business building was built as a brick building (the shop is now located in Hauptstrasse), as was the Vorster villa belonging to the industrial family of the same name. In their place, the Vorsterpark was built in the 1960s .
North of the historic center, Crumbach has merged with Ochshausen through the construction of the settlement (and the main street as the center of Lohfelden). There is a rainbow school , a primary school and a comprehensive school in the village . The sculpture “Mut” by the artist Wolfgang Loewe, which is dedicated to Hermes, the messenger of the gods, is located in Bachstrasse. In 2002 the city planner Hans-Helmut Nolte created a design manual on behalf of the municipality, which defines how to deal with the historical building fabric.
