Career
In the club
In 2003 Etheridge attended Chelsea FC's soccer school . There he played with Phil Younghusband and James Younghusband , who later also became Filipino national players. Etheridge first played as a striker but switched to the goalkeeper position after the coach asked him to. In 2006 he signed a professional contract with Fulham FC . In 2008 he moved to Leatherhead FC on loan . In 2009 Etheridge was operated on on both knees, which meant that he was out for six months. At the end of the 2009/10 season he signed a new one-year contract with Fulham FC. On September 11, 2010 Etheridge was called to the A-team for the first time after the second goalkeeper, David Stockdale , was injured. In the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers , however, he sat on the bench for 90 minutes. Since the 2011/12 season he was second goalkeeper behind Mark Schwarzer at Fulham FC. He made his debut on December 14, 2011 in the UEFA Europa League in the home game against Odense BK (2-2) in the starting XI.
National team
In 2005 Etheridge took part in the Victory Shield with England's U-16 national team. The trophy was shared between Wales and England . In 2007 he received an invitation from the Philippine national team , but declined because he did not know the language or a player. In spring 2008 he was invited again, this time by PFF President Jose Mari Martinez personally. Martinez and Phil Younghusband were finally able to convince Etheridge and Etheridge decided to play for the Philippine national soccer team from now on.
In 2008 he played all three games in the AFC Challenge Cup qualification. However, the team failed due to their bad goal difference. In the same year he also took part in the AFF Suzuki Cup qualification. The Philippines won two games, drew and lost one. Although they were equal to another team in terms of points and goal difference, they missed the qualification because fewer goals were scored.
