The Asklepios Westklinikum Hamburg is the general hospital in the Hamburg district of Rissen in the Altona district and part of the meanwhile partially privatized State Hospital Hamburg . Due to its cooperation with the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel since 2008, it is one of the academic teaching hospitals . The medical director is Hans-Peter Köhler.
The clinic has been in operation in the former Rissen air force barracks since 1946. Until 2001 it was run in cooperation between the City of Hamburg and the DRK Sisterhood . In the meantime, Asklepios has sold the northern part of the extensive site facing the Marschweg to a property developer who wants to build around 300 residential units on it; the corresponding development plan (Rissen 45 / Sülldorf 22) is currently (January 2011) still being voted on. Approx. 1000 employees work in the clinic.
